Connemara Marble is the most popular bead for Irish jewelry. But Ireland has other forms of marble that look great in jewelry too. Throughout the country different counties have various types of marble. Kilkenny has black marble, Ulster has white marble, and Cork has red marble. I'll admit I didn't know much about these other forms of Irish marble. But I am looking forward to trying each color from all the counties of Ireland.
Connemara marble is mostly green with some grey color. It is found in the west coast of Ireland. The color green comes from the mineral serpentine. It can be all colors of green from a yellowish green to a dark grey green.
Kilkenny marble is a charcoal black color. Kilkenny is in the south east part of Ireland. It is nicknamed Marble City. I really like using Kilkenny marble because the color is so versatile.
The northern part of Ireland is the province of Ulster. The marble from Ulster is called white marble but it is really more off white to light grey color then pure white.
The town of Cork produces red marble. Red marble is a warm color of red with pink or orange tones. I think red marble might be my favorite stone. I love the warm earthy tones.
I have a section in my shop of jewelry made with Irish marble. Please click here to see examples of some of these beautiful stones.
